Dublin Marathon and Halloween Celebration

Your feet will bring you where your heart is. – Irish Proverb The Dublin marathon was ranked 5th in Europe in 2017, with nearly 16,000 finishers. Due to its size, runners were corralled and released in waves. I was assigned to the first wave and enjoyed a great start! Rory and Catherine were waiting outside their flat about a mile into the race route. As I approached and tore off my top layer, I also destroyed my headphones. I laughed it off and kept running. A few miles into the... Continue Reading

Every Princess Needs A Castle

Okay, I must admit that from time I was a little girl I loved fairytales…stories about true love and of good triumphing over evil. Although I have enjoyed images of gorgeous architecture through the years, I was beyond excited to visit my first castle. Dublin Castle was originally a Viking settlement and was known as the poorest castle. It was wild to imagine 18,000 bodies residing within these walls. In addition to the challenges of normal disease and death, the Black Death (transported by rats and fleas) killed 8,000 people... Continue Reading

A Bit of Leprechaun Mischief

People destined to meet will do so. Although it may seem by chance, our life paths cross with others at precisely the right moment. These encounters continue to bring me the most beautiful friendships around the world. Oh how I love reuniting with fellow globe trotters and marathon runners from around the world. My first stop after freshening up at my hotel was the gorgeous and serene Trinity College campus. I experienced an amazing energy encapsulating the entire campus, including the magnificent Book of Kells Exhibition and The Long Room.... Continue Reading

Love Is…

Love Is… By: Jacqueline Cassel E The Magazine for Today’s Female Executive (February 2017) Love is such a powerful word. What is love really? And what does it mean to love? We often think of love as a euphoric feeling or intense affection for another that overtakes our entire being. Love extends far beyond romantic ardor and takes many forms. It is the essence of life. We enter this world as tiny bundles of love with so much creative energy and the innate knowledge that life is limitless. This fuels... Continue Reading

The Power of Conscious Leadership

The Power of Conscious Leadership By: Jacqueline Cassel E The Magazine for Female Executives (January 2017). The New Year is a time of reflection and renewal. What better time to set goals and the tone for the rest of the year? First you must evaluate everything you’ve been told about leadership. Release all of your subconscious beliefs. Prepare to chart a new course based on your natural abilities and unique gifts. I’m often asked about the lack of balanced diversity and wage gaps in senior level management roles, in high-level... The Perfect Storm That Swept Away My Life’s Foundation

God doesn’t give us who or what we want; Rather, He gives us what and who we need, in order to become who we are meant to be.   Little did I understand how the message I received one October evening in 2008 would become a pinnacle moment marking the beginning of the end of life as I knew it—and sparking my spiritual evolution. As I set out on my run in the dark and foggy twilight, I heard the sound of tires squealing from the lowly traveled road... Continue Reading

Recognize an Abuser’s Tactics and Reclaim Your Personal Power

Be the change you wish to see in the world. – Mahatma Ghandi   Your inner wounded child is that which holds onto the pain from abuse. Abuse occurs in every community regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, or economic status. As a survivor, abuse or addiction may have been part of your life experience, but it no longer needs to define you. Children represent purity and humanity’s opportunity for rebirth. They are symbolic of hope and God’s love for us. They are born to love unconditionally and... Continue Reading

A Private Lesson In Greek Cuisine

Dining in Santorini was an enjoyable highlight of my trip! The volcanic soil and evening humidity produces the most amazing naturally-grown tomatoes and other produce…ripe and juicy. Tomatoes are a staple in many Greek dishes, as well as the use of olives. If you enjoy wine, there are also a number of local vineyards to tour. I ran by miles of vineyards every morning 🙂 Amy (one of my besties) and I enjoyed the cuisine so much that we booked a private cooking lesson at The Bone Restaurant, near Center... Continue Reading

Sailing the Aegean Sea

After our first day in Greece, I caught about an hour of shuteye before returning to the airport for our next destination. I was running on pure adrenaline and excitement to breathe in the beauty of Santorini, an island in the southern Aegean Sea. The Athen’s airport never sleeps either. It was 4am and I found myself in another long line to check in with Aegean Airlines. Aegean Airlines has some of the most courteous staff I’ve ever encountered. Although the Athen airport could use for some re-engineering, Aegean Airlines... Continue Reading

Experiencing the Sacred High Rock

I enjoyed some rest and relaxation in Greece with Amy, one of my besties. Our adventures began in Athens, also known as the City of Athena. Shortly after arrival we were checked into our hotel and ready to explore all that this ancient city had to offer prior to early early morning flight to Santorini. The Acropolis and other ancient ruins are prime tourist attractions and well worth the wait. In addition to obtaining gorgeous pictures, the energy that exists in this geographic footprint was exhilarating to experience. Athens is... Continue Reading

Love, Creative Energy and Fun: Energetic Powerhouse to Manifesting

Experiencing love, channeling creative energy and having fun are a collective powerhouse to manifesting abundance and to transforming your life. The heart chakra is the most powerful energy center or vortex within your subtle energy system. It works in tandem with your sacral chakra, which sits near the reproductive organs. This life force is well known for its association with sexual energy, but it is also your birth canal to manifesting change in your life. Sustained blockages or a state of imbalance within the sacral chakra can lead to outcomes... Continue Reading

Seven Continents Marathon Finisher (Woo Hoo!)

Although I began running the summer before I entered eighth grade to shed weight, running became empowering on so many other levels. I could choose when and where I would run. It was simple to put on my shoes and head out the front door. Running became a form of meditation for me. It became my place of spiritual solace where I was present in the moment within nature. I was once asked by a non-runner what I was running from. He had it all wrong. I was running to... Continue Reading

Lima 42K Marathon (2016)

What runner doesn’t love an amazing marathon expo? Lima’s 42K expo was spectacular! Located within the stadium, the warm breeze and sunshine felt amazing. The event was sizable to accommodate the 14,000 runners (marathon, half marathon and 10k) and was filled with pre-race energy of excitement!   Pre-Race: Orange anyone? It’s the first race where I observed more than 90% of runners wear their race shirt on race day. It seems to be a tradition. Returning Home I was reminded how much I need to learn Spanish! Leonardo (my driver)... Continue Reading

Peruvian Cuisine and History Lesson

Day 2 in Lima began with a lovely night’s sleep and a 2.5 mile run to stretch my legs. We were focused on properly fueling and hydrating the day before Lima’s 42K Marathon. Astrid & Gaston was renowned by everyone we met as a 5-star Peruvian dining experience, with the most magnificent chef in all of Peru. We were told that it takes months to secure a reservation and alternative restaurants were suggested. Wait, if you don’t ask…you shall never receive. We called and got right in to enjoy quite... The City of Kings

I landed in Lima shortly after 5am on a Friday morning. Once I passed through customs and collected my luggage, I was filled with unbridled enthusiasm as I spotted my driver. Upon being whisked to my hotel in Mira Flores, I was even more excited to learn they were checking me in immediately! With only 3.5 days scheduled in Lima, a power nap and hot shower were all I needed to quickly rejuvenate. Lima holds the title as Peru’s capital, Peru’s largest city and as the “City of Kings”, in... We Are All One

An Antractic expedition is the worst way to have the best time of your life. -Apsely Cherry-Garrard Two-week Antarctic Expedition with people from 21 countries and great chemistry. It didn’t matter where we were from, we shared the love of running, playing, exploring life and enjoying the company of others. Appreciating everyone’s cultural differences, this group was quite the adventurous melting pot of hilarity! Our course took us from the Tango Capital of the World…to the End of the World…to the South Pole. Experienced 10-days aboard the Academik Ioffe research... Continue Reading

Ice Ice Baby

Antarctica has this mythic weight. It resides in the collective unconscious of so many people, and it makes this huge impact, just like outer space. It’s like going to the moon. ― Jon Krakauer Being surrounded by glaciers and icebergs that far surpassed the size of our boat, much less any one of us, certainly is a humbling reminder that we are but a speck of dust in the universe. 10 Facts about Glaciers Presently, 10% of land on Earth is covered with glacial ice. 85% of the Earth’s glacial... The Coldest and Windiest Marathon on Earth

Through endurance we conquer. ― Ernest Shackleton The day we were all ready for had finally arrived. It was RACE DAY on King George Island! The biggest lessons of the day? The power of the human spirit is simply magical and heart-warming. You can attain everything you desire in life, but first you must believe. Faith manifests miracles. Mother Nature is undoubtedly a universal force to be reckoned with. Antarctica is indeed the coldest and windiest place on earth! Whether running the full 26.2 miles, the half marathon or volunteering,... Continue Reading

Happy Feet

Our Antarctic expedition continues… We spotted our first iceberg, whales and birds on our third day at sea. We were enveloped by endless oceanic views. Simply gorgeous, exemplifying God’s miracles! Penguin Island’s prominent geological feature is the 170m height cone of Deacon Peak, the northern face that slopes to the beach landing. Most of this 1.6km island is surrounded by low cliffs, with Chinstrap penguins, Adelie penguins, nesting giant petrels and Antarctic Terns, as well as several seal species. Penguins were in abundance throughout the Antarctic region. Interested in reading... Continue Reading

Oh, the Places You’ll Go Aboard the Academik Ioffe

To anyone who goes to the Antarctic, there is a tremendous appeal, an unparalleled combination of grandeur, beauty, vastness, loneliness and malevolence – all of which sound terribly melodramatic – but which truthfully convey the actual feeling of Antarctica Where else in the world are all of these descriptors really true? – Captain T.L.M. Sunter As we set course for Antarctica, The Academik Ioffe (a Russian research vessel) became my home for the next 10 days under the command of a Russian naval crew. It was a brilliant trip of... From the Tango Capital of the World to the End of the World

Don’t simply chase your dreams. Manifest them by living life to its fullest. The Antarctica Expedition I had interest in as part of my running tour around the world was booked for the next two years. Upon expressing interest in the 2018 marathon event I was notified that an opening was now available for 2016…just a few short months away. This spectacular journey began with my flight into Buenos Aires, where I soon connected with people from 21 countries who marry their love for running, travel and self-exploration. They continue... Triumphant Over The Great Wall

What the mind can conceive, it can achieve. -Napolean Hill Scheduling to run the Paris Marathon a month prior to The Great Wall Marathon turned out to be a spectacular component of my training regimin. Running on The Great Wall Marathon was certainly a physical endurance challenge with 5,164 steps sprinkled within the 26.2 miles! The stars aligned in such a way that a childhood friend and her family are ex-pats living in Shanghai at the time of this event. In addition to the excitement of running the full 26.2... Paris Marathon (36th Annual)

Man imposes his own limitations; don’t set any. -Anthony Bailey Game on. The early morning chill was a blessing with so much body heat being emitted by nearly 40,000 runners. This was the most exhilarating, entertaining, well-organized race (especially for its size) that I have participated in to date – TRES MAGNIFIQUE! I must also give props to all of the amazing runners from around the world. Everyone I meet is so friendly with an absolutely amazing story! Resting my legs in the days leading up to this race simply... Continue Reading

La vie ne vant d’être vécue sans amour. -Serge Gainsbourg Translation: Life is not worth living without love. I had an innate desire to travel the world for years. I often visited Rome in my dreams. When I separated from my husband of nearly twelve years, I planned my first trip abroad. Solo. It was so exhilarating that I booked my next trip solo as well, to one of the most romantic cities in the world. Paris. The Energy To Lead

Natural Awakenings (BuxMont/Main Line February 2016 Edition) By Jacqui Cassel: Leadership is often confused with achieving a position or title. Authentic leadership, however, is predicated on the ability to positively influence outcomes through our actions. The most effective leaders are those that become the voice of inspiration, clearing space for others to evolve into the best possible version of themselves. Workplace leaders are most effective when they recognize and embrace energy leadership. This type of leadership involves understanding how your vibrational energy, choices and actions influence those within your professional... Continue Reading

Running with the Kiwis

My time in New Zealand culminated with ASB’s Auckland’s Marathon. Of the nearly 12,000 runners participating in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 12K Traverse on November 1, 2015, approximately 2,000 participants were registered to run the full marathon. Our trek to the starting line in Devonport, by way of ferryboat, began at 4:30am.   Participation in this tremendous event declined nearly 20% from prior years, due to the Rugby World Cup game. All Blacks fans were seriously committed to their rugby union. When it came to Go Big or Go... Continue Reading

Breezing Through the City of Sails

My global travels recently brought me to the beautiful islands of New Zealand. Undoubtedly, the 20+ hours of in-air travel time alone was worth the investment. New Zealand is renowned for its beauty and serenity, low-crime rate, and no biting critters. They have no harmful animals, such as, snakes or venomous insects, although a Kiwi shared that the occasional spider or two has been known to make its way over from Australia. Biosecurity screening at the airport is critically important to maintaining New Zealand’s environment. There are strict biosecurity procedures... Continue Reading

Journey Home From Kenya…

Day 10 and it was already time to begin my journey home. As we entered Nairobi, traffic lanes disappeared and congestion worsened. The mass chaos was reminiscent of driving in Shangai with the random horn beeping. Although we had passed security checkpoints throughout the week, they were much more frequent on Sundays. We were stopped earlier in the week, but not on this return trip. When I questioned one of the drivers, he replied: “The armed guards could see we were tourists. They are looking for terrorists.” Although I was... Continue Reading

The Sanctuary at Ole Lentille (Laikipia, Kenya)

Arriving at The Sanctuary at Ole Lentille was heavenly and completely healed my travel nausea from our 2+ hour ride in a four-wheel vehicle on remote, mountainous terrain. I recommend an entire week’s immersion to truly maximize the Sanctuary experience. Note: There is a nearby airstrip for those who prefer to charter a small plane. Initially we were to spend our final two nights at a tented campsite near the race start/finish line. My heart was filled with gratitude when John and Gill Elias made their beautiful Sanctuary available to... Continue Reading

The Amazing Maasai Marathon (Laikipia, Kenya)

The Amazing Maasai Marathon marathon is notably one of the top adventure marathons in the world, and serves as the primary fundraiser for The Girls Project. In addition to raising funds to support girls’ secondary education, running empowers everyone in the community. It facilitates important dialogue regarding topics such as the role of women in society and supports expansion in their tourism industry. We were up by 5am to prepare for the 7:30 start time on Saturday, August 8, 2015. The universe gifted us with a beautiful breeze and cloud... Continue Reading

The Girls Project (Kenya)

The Amazing Maasai Marathon is the primary fundraiser for The Girls Project (Kenya), which is a program to educate and empower young women. Although public education is considered “free”, there is an annual price tag of nearly $400 to cover uniforms, transportation and other necessities. Families struggling in poverty typically prioritize education of their sons over their daughters. So, by the time these young women turn 13, many are married off for hopes of a better life. The annual costs for boarding schools, such as Daraja Academy, are a bit... Continue Reading

Mount Kenya Safari Club and Animal Orphanage

I enjoyed even more magnificent views of majestic Mount Kenya, at the Mount Kenya Safari Club. It was originally the retreat of movie star and Club founder, William Holden. The Club’s former members have included Winston Churchill and Bing Crosby. After a little shopping en route and then getting settled into my new room, I enjoyed an evening of tribal dance and dinner with friends. I felt so blessed to enjoy a day of recreational activities after an early morning run. The list of the Club’s available activities includes horseback... Continue Reading

Aberdare Country Club and Running In the Wild (Nanyuki, Kenya)

Aberdare Country Club is nestled upon a slope of Mweiga Hill in the Aberdare Highlands. Upon checking in, we were each escorted to our own serene cottage. Although we were advised we could comfortably walk the property near the main buildings, we were advised not to wander further out without a guide since the Country Club is situated amongst miles of wildlife. Many of us quickly changed into our running gear in order to enjoy our first run with a Kenyan guide. Running at an altitude nearly 7,000 was very... Continue Reading

Aberdare National Park (Kenya Adventure)

We stopped for handcrafted souvenirs at the equator in route to The Ark Lodge, which was centrally situated within Aberdare National Park (ANP). The lodging was quite an experience in and of itself. Rule #1: There was no leaving The Ark without a guide.       After checking in and enjoying a delightful lunch with a window seat to so many beautiful animals, I went for my first game drive! This was the beginning of taking many beautiful pictures of nature’s wonders and all she has to offer. It... Continue Reading

Journey Into the Heart of Kenya

Pushing through at least three hilly miles a day the summer before 8th grade was the beginning of my love affair with running. Running was an early form of meditation, allowing me to connect with nature and clear my mind. Up until I trained for my first marathon in 2007, my logical mind was happy to present all of the reasons why I didn’t have time to invest in a sport I loved — career, kids, busy work — capping my runs at six miles. It wasn’t until my mid-thirties... Continue Reading
